This weekend was slated for some crucial welding work on the tray, where we’ve found more rust than expected. Unfortunately, technical difficulties with my welding equipment put a halt to that plan. So I will need to tackle this next weekend instead, so only a minor setback
Despite the setback with the welder, I made headway on preparing Rubie for welding the tray back together. I managed to grind down and cut out the severely rusted sections of the tray, making it ready for the new metal it’ll soon receive. Here are a few photos showing the extent of rust and the prep work done today:
To protect the exposed metal from the elements, I’ve covered the work area with a tarp. It’s crucial to keep the newly exposed areas dry to prevent any new rust from forming before I can get to welding. There will be rust that forms before next weekend but it should only be on the surface now its protected
Looking forward, the plan remains to patch up these spots with fresh sheet metal. Once the welding is complete, the next steps will involve a thorough sanding, a new coat of paint, and a protective layer of Gator Grip to ensure both durability and aesthetics.
