I started this past week working on the Brumby by fixing the driver’s seat, my mate Tom ended up welding the seat rail together for me, I then gave the seat a clean with an extractor vacuum which cleaned it up quite nicely.
I then tried to fix the blower fan by replacing the broken relay, while this did fix the relay it did not fix the blower, so now began the process of chasing down the electrical fault with a multimeter
still not being able to find the source of the fault I decided to take this opportunity to rip out all the interior as I was planning to do this later, and have a look at all the wiring and fix any quick fixes that may have been done in the past.
The first fix that I completed was removing the radio harness that was covered in electrical tape (Due to no heat shrink being used). I then put my attention toward the always-live 12v outlet, this was promptly disconnected and the wires were cut so they don’t short on anything it is worth pointing out that this was not fused either. The harness looks like it was originally used for the CB radio that has an inline fuse, my plan is to relocate this under the new radio.
With those two quick things fixed I started removing more dash. One thing that I didn’t expect and in hindsight is pretty obvious, is that the inside of the dash is caked in dust and dirt, this would explain the aircon controls being hard to manipulate being covered in dirt and dust
I ended up also removing the broken SCA speakers from the doors and pulling the wiring out, both speakers were broken and not worth fixing as I plan to replace them with good quality Sony or Pioneer speakers once the door trims are redone and the new radio is being installed
Once all the interior is removed I can work on fixing the wiring harness and painting the bare metal, and after that, I plan to redo the interior by; redoing the carpet, suede wrapping the dash, painting the plastic pieces black, wrapping the remainder of the interior in leather, redoing the headliner, replacing the seats with Toyota 86 seats, installing sound deading material, fitting new speakers under seat sub mounted on the back wall, putting a single DIN head unit in, and relocating that CB with the radio.
