27/11/22 – Brake Lines All Done

Today was another big day working on Rubie, I started with attacking the broken handbrake, I first removed the broken seat (Which needs to be fixed with a welder) then I was able to remove the center console exposing the handbrake.

Removing the handbrake was easy, I removed the cables attached to it via the bolt and two locking nuts, Then it was just two bolts holding it to the floor pan, I then removed the sensor with two screws.

Fixing the handbrake then was easy, all I had to do was push the pin that sits on the base gear outwards, I then reseated the handbrake and re-attached the cable.

With help from Zali I then attacked the rear brake lines, these were pretty easy, the only soft tubing is between two hardlines between the drum and the frame.

A new brake line installed

With the new lines in the rear, we were able to finish bleeding the whole system and flush some new brake fluid though.

The final job we got completed for the day was to re-attach the mudguards to the Tie-rods. I left the car jacked to work on the shift linkage last, but the weather forced us to finish up early for the day

The items left on the list to complete are:

  • Fix shifter slop
  • Weld rail on driver’s seat
  • Replace the right side mirror
  • Install a battery harness
  • Fix the aircon fan control
  • Complete an oil change
