12/11/22 – Finally some progress

If I have learned anything from my project so far is that the proper tools really are worth their weight in gold, but I’ll go over that later in the blog post, first a small win of the day:

The washer bottle replacement arrived and I had it fitted in around 20 min although it was a “universal” one from eBay the power plug was the same as well as the fitting coming off the pump, all I had to do was put the new mount on the car and it slid straight on and looks pretty good in my opinion.

Now on to the rest of the day, I purchased a few items today including;

  • A set of claw and heavy hammers
  • Hardened steel pin pushers
  • C clip pliers
  • Rags and Degreaser
  • Garage Creeper

These tools made removing the axel end that was stuck on the gearbox so much easier, I was able to push the pin that I got stuck on last time out. With it disassembled in the sink I was able to clean it up

Disassembled Axle

I was then able to use the C clip pliers to remove the bearings off the end to side the boot off

Clean components and disassembled

I was able to then put the boot on the axle shaft and put the bearings back on. then all I had to do was put the new lube in the boot and seal it with the metal ties. Pretty straight forward really once it’s out of the car

Re assembled axle

The last job for the day was to re-install the axle and to remove the right-hand Knuckle ready for the new ball joints that are arriving this week, getting the knuckle off was pretty easy with some WD-40 and a jack pushing up on the lower joint. What I did notice is that when you replace the rotors you will also have to remove the CV joint bolt on the Brumby.

That was all for this weekend, I can’t work on it tomorrow due to some other commitments, but I plan to work on it again next weekend
